Vic: Parties argue over HIH compo fund

The Victorian government and the opposition have each accused the other of stalling
compensation for home owners caught up in the HIH collapse.

The opposition has threatened to block amendments in the upper house that would prevent
developers from accessing the government's HIH compensation package.

The government says more than 150 home owners entitled to compensation due to shoddy
workmanship will miss out if the opposition carries out the threat.

But the opposition says the government's amendments introduced retrospective changes
that would cut off compensation from other categories of building owners.
