Vic: Six injured after "horrific" car fire
A Melbourne man who pulled five seriously burnt members of a family from a blazingcar is being hailed as a hero by ambulance officers.
Four children aged under 10 and their 42-year-old father suffered burns covering upto 75 per cent of their bodies after the vehicle's fuel tank apparently exploded.
Police say the car careered in flames off Hamilton Drive in southeast suburban CranbourneNorth and ended up in the front garden of a house.
Melbourne ambulance spokeswoman LIZ TUNNECLIFFE says the next door neighbour riskedhis life to drag the five badly burnt people from the car.
Ms TUNNECLIFFE says the man is a hero and severely burnt his hands dragging them from the car.
According to police, it was luck that nobody else was injured in the accident.
Two of the driver's sons -- one aged eight and another aged seven -- are in a criticalcondition in the Childrens' Hospital.
His two other children -- a four-year-old boy and a 10-year-old-girl -- are in a stablecondition at Monash Medical centre.
The driver of the car is being treated at Dandenong hospital for burns to 30 per centof his body.
The man who pulled the occupants from the car was being treated at Frankston hospitalfor severe hand burns.
